Should a Christian take fellow Christian to court?
Have you heard Christians say something like, “Christians should not go to court against each other”? If you have, you might also have heard them use 1 Corinthians 6:1-11 as the basis for the claim. So then, if you have a dispute with a Christian over unpaid rent, property damage, defamation, etc, the Bible mandates that you must not take up a lawsuit again them. Is this what the Apostle Paul meant and is this how he envisages it to be relevant to us today? Paul (in the bible) attacks the inappropriate manipulation of a fellow Christian through the use of superior wealth, power, patronage, social influence, or business networks.…

Are You a True Disciple of Jesus?
In the book of Mark, right after Peter’s confession of Jesus as the promised Messiah, Jesus proclaims and predicts his coming rejection, suffering, and death (Mark 8:31-33). A commentator wrote, “The disciples will have a hard time processing that the Messiah can suffer like this… how such a glorious figure can suffer such a fate”. Indeed, Peter then rebukes Jesus for saying this!

Without the bookshelves and space in the office, I’ve been trying to make space at home and create a small study for myself these two days. As you may know, we collect many things over the years and it’s oh-so-difficult to sort out which ones to keep on keeping and which ones to let go into days gone by.

With God, There Is No Box
Through the years, I’ve learned that God works in contrasting ways and I see this throughout the Bible. This helps me realize that God does not lock himself down to just a one-size-fits-all approach as he deals with humanity and history. So, today, I’d like to point out several instances of this, beginning with Luke’s opening verses in Luke 1:1-4.

Was Jesus Literate?
Sure, Jesus was literate! How do we know? It was on a Sabbath day; Jesus was in the synagogue and he was handed the scroll of the prophet Isaiah. We know that Jesus knew how to read because in Luke 4:16-19, he “found the place where it is written” and he read that passage out. He would not have been able to find that passage in the scroll if he did not know how to read and of course, he could not have read it aloud either if he could not read! Pastor Liew Yean Huat joined the pastoral team after 29 years in the Financial Services sector. He served as a Deacon & Vice-Chairman for a number of years. Pastor Yean Huat is heading the Marketplace and Prayer ministries besides preaching, teaching and training. Pastor Jessica Ong Mei Chen worked in the property and services industries for more than 35 years before she stepped out in faith and joined GBC in 2010.
